🎉 MarchFourth's 22nd Anniversary Celebration on Mardi Gras Day! 🎺Portland, get ready to party! MarchFourth is celebrating 22 incredible years with our annual birthday show at the Crystal Ballroom on March 4, 2025!
Born on a Fat Tuesday in 2003, MarchFourth has grown into a one-of-a-kind spectacle—part brass band, part circus, and all celebration! Join us for a night of high-energy grooves, gravity-defying performances, and pure JOY.
Costumed as a psychedelic-punk-rock-circus troupe, MarchFourth is a kaleidoscope of musical prowess and immersive visuals that brings an explosive energy to every performance. Founded on Mardi Gras Day 22 years ago in Portland, OR, M4 is a brass-powered tour de force that inspires a joyous atmosphere. The band’s sound is a melting pot of funk, jazz, soul, and rock with an infectious groove.
Between the 14-piece band, acrobats, stilt walkers, dancers, and a live visual artist, every show is an unforgettable, in-your-face-theatrical experience. The band has captivated audiences from ESPN’s Espy Awards to festivals like Bumbershoot, High Sierra Music Fest, and Jam Cruise to world-class venues like The Kennedy Center, Hollywood Bowl, The Fillmore, as well as a cultural exchange tour to China, sponsored by the US State Department.
MarchFourth’s track “Gospel” (from 2009 self-released album Rise Up) was featured as the closing credits theme song in the Disney/Pixar film Monsters University. The band’s 2023 EP Worth It melds buoyant brass band traditions, funk, rock, and jazz into a heady melodic stew bubbling with excitement and a triumphant sound.
Special Guests - Free Creatures
Free Creatures presents a highly sensational and easily digestible musical flavor, an Umami music that brings many cherished styles together in a fresh, fun way. Oregon born emcee / producer Marv Ellis brings the foundation with his West Coast indie-style hip hop beats remixed on-stage on an MPCLive, coupled with his uniquely Northwest flavor of Rhythmic American Poetry and songwriting. In this project, Marv is joined by multi instrumentalist Emily Turner’s siren-like vocals, thoughtful lyrics, driving upright bass, and spunky trumpet solos, and by Skyler Squglio’s wizardly approach to upside down, left handed electric guitar.
