March Monthly Meeting
Schedule
Wed, 04 Mar, 2026 at 07:00 pm
UTC-08:00Location
Odd Fellows Hall, 1831 Howe Ave, Sacramento, CA, United States, California | Sacramento, CA
Each month features an outstanding speaker, light refreshments, a plant opportunity table, and our popular member show-and-tell. Members bring in their blooming orchids, transforming the room into a mini orchid show. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see beautiful plants up close and talk directly with the growers about how they care for them and keep them thriving.
This month, we’re excited to welcome our very own member Alan Koch, who will be speaking on “Angraecoids.”
Alan owns and operates Gold Country Orchids, specializing in miniature and compact Cattleyas as well as miniature species. Since beginning his orchid journey in Southern California in 1969, his passion for orchids has quite literally driven him to expand — moving five times to accommodate his growing collection. With his most recent move, he purchased 10 acres in Lincoln to house an incredible 250,000 orchids.
An internationally recognized speaker, Alan is considered an expert in the Brazilian Cattleya Alliance and a trendsetter in miniature and compact Cattleya breeding. His work has been published in Orchid Digest, the American Orchid Society’s magazine Orchids, and numerous international publications, including proceedings from the World Orchid Conference.
Alan has also given extensive service to the orchid community. He is a past member of the AOS Judging and Research Committees, an Emeritus Judge, and currently serves as Training Coordinator for the California–Sierra Nevada Judging Center. He has held leadership roles with Orchid Digest and the American Orchid Society, and he currently serves as First Vice President of the International Phalaenopsis Alliance. Many also know him for his engaging and entertaining presence at AOS auctions around the country.
We’ll also be hosting AOS judging at this meeting. If you have an orchid you believe may be award-worthy, bring it between 6:00–6:30 PM. The California Sierra Nevada Judging Center will evaluate your plant and, if it qualifies, grant an award — an exciting opportunity for any grower.
Whether you’re a longtime orchid enthusiast or just getting started, we hope you’ll join us. You can become a member at any meeting or event, and we’d be delighted to welcome you into our community and help you grow your best orchids yet.
