Protagonist Cafe is a literary-themed coffeehouse designed to serve as a welcoming community gathering space in Soulard. Housed in a historic pre–Civil War building, the café features more than 5,000 pre-loved books lining a custom 27-foot bookshelf. The coffee is made from beans that are organic, fair-trade certified, and roasted in small batches for freshness, with roasting handled in-house through the café’s sister operation.
