Marcello Di Cintio presents "Precarious: The Lives of Migrant Workers"
About this Event
Join us for a compelling morning featuring award-winning Calgary author Marcello Di Cintio.
Marcello will present his most recent work of non-fiction: Precarious: The Lives of Migrant Workers. This book delves into the history of Canada's migrant labor program, sharing stories of those who stand to gain and lose within a global system that often depends on the vulnerability of its most disenfranchised actors. He'll share insights from his research and lead a discussion that may touch upon globalization, economics, human justice and what it all means for each of us.
Precarious won City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Award (Marcello's third win of this prestigious award) and was a finalist for Writers' Guild of Alberta (WGA) non-fiction categories, and it is the winner of the 2024 Dave Greber Freelance Writers Book Award.
We'll also be joined by Ashley Frerichs of the Writer's Guild of Alberta, who'll tell us about the Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction, which the Big Book Club sponsors.
Big Book Club talks are 45-60 minutes with time afterwards for audience questions and discussion.
Water and biscuits will be served. If you want coffee or tea, please bring your own in a lidded cup.
Many parking spaces in the main lot are reserved for pre-school pickup. Please arrive early to take advantage of accessible street parking.
