About this Event
Experience the wonders of marbling, a magical, spontaneous art form that creates beautiful one-of-a-kind surfaces. We will use a traditional method of marbling in a water bath, floating our paints on the surface to achieve fluid, dynamic patterns that we will then capture on silk scarves. Students will begin with a color exploration, building color palettes and exploring color theory. We will delve into fabric preparation, how to create size, blend paints, and care for the marbled fabric to preserve the beautiful patterns.
Each participant will leave with one marbled silk scarf, as well as practice pieces.
No prior experience is needed. All materials are provided.
This workshop is part of the Weaving & Fiber Festival (WeFF), which starts at 10 a.m. in the adjacent Teen Center. WeFF is free to the public.
This workshop will also be taught from 1:00 to 3:00. You can register for the earlier workshop .

About the Teacher: An artist, designer and teacher, Sadye Harvey is the owner of Little Green Art Studio, a creative gathering place located in Frogtown, Los Angeles.
Sadye co-founded an award-winning sewing-manufacturing company in Colorado, has taught teams from dozens of major companies all over the world, and has helped to produce and curate beautiful creative experiences for thousands of people.
As a maker, Sadye follows her curiosity to explore a range of mediums including leather work, marbling, basket weaving, knitting, sewing, dyeing and pattern making. From her home studio, she pursues the creation of beautiful accessories and home goods under her brand Temerity, working by hand, using sustainable materials and focusing on longevity. She has been sewing all her life, gleaning instruction and knowledge from her mother, her costume design professor, a downtown Los Angeles designer, and scores of talented cutters, pattern makers, tailors and sewists with whom she has worked over the years.
She holds at the core of her teaching ethos that sitting down to begin is the most courageous step of a creative journey, curiosity is key, and that not only is everyone capable of making lovely things, but that it is a necessary part of being fully human.
