About this Event

Mapping the City

We are pleased to be joined by Kroll Maps, one of the oldest family-owned businesses in Seattle. In the past 150 years, Kroll has overgone significant technological advancements in mapping and has a rich archive filled with maps of Seattle and beyond. In this class, we will use the Kroll Maps archives as a jumping off point to explore change in the city, then make our own psychogeographic maps that express personal and collective narratives overlaid on the city grid.

Co-Teacher
John is the 3rd generation owner of Kroll and oversaw the conversion of a “pen and ink” map company to an all digital GIS/cartographic firm 30 years ago. He deals with a variety of clients, ranging from government to real estate to general business. John carries with him a deep appreciation of the time and effort required by his predecessors to compile quality mapping. John is also the majority owner of Metsker Maps in the Pike Place Market.
