Mapping Glacial Fronts in the High Arctic, MICA Sabbatical Exhibit opening

Katie OMeara’s recent work captures the unusual terrain deep within the arctic circle. Working from a sailing ship less than 500 miles from the North Pole, O’Meara spent June 2022 as a fellow on the Arctic Circle Residency expedition exploring the changing relationship between land, sea and ice in the Svalbard archipelago.

Each of the four panels on exhibit is an aerial image 5’-7’ tall, which O’Meara assembled from 40-80 individual photographs. These unique views offer a rare glimpse into these remote,
fragile landscapes.
