Maple Syrup Festival is back, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.Whether you have a cup of hot coffee or a bag of maple cotton candy in hand, there’s something special about getting outside after the long winter, standing around the fires, listening to oral histories and enjoying the sense of community syrup season in the sugarbush is known for.
With stations demonstrating sap boiling techniques from a Native American sugaring log, homesteader kettle, long pan and modern evaporators, you can experience how Michigan maple syrup has been made, and be a part of it too! You can learn how to tap a tree or test out historic transport methods like our yoke lift. This year, we’re introducing new stations too, where you can make your own sumac spiles, learn to ID trees ready for tapping and hear about “sap suckers,” the animals that drink maple sap during long winters.
Then, of course, you’ll want to pick up some sweet treats like maple candies, maple sugar, and of course, maple syrup!
This festival serves as a fundraiser for the 501(c)3 nonprofit Fenner Conservancy that manages Fenner Nature Center. Every dollar donated or spent at the festival goes to support your community nature center.
