Maple Sugaring Fest @PALMER PARK

WHAT: People for Palmer Park and our Naturalist partners present our annual Maple Sugaring Fest @ Palmer Park, a free family-friendly, child-oriented program. Choose either the morning session beginning at 11:00 AM or the afternoon session beginning at 1:00 pm, each under 1.5 hours long. Reserve your space asap—both sessions are limited to only 35 people.

Please honor your reservation. People for Palmer Park pays for each attendee and we want to include as many families as possible. Let us know asap if you cannot attend so we can offer the space to another person or family.

LEARN THE HISTORY OF MAPLE SUGARING, and observe the process of syrup production, from tree to pancake! Learn the history of the process, help tap a maple tree, and see sap boiling into syrup. Learn what you need in case you want to try this at home. We begin at the Community House and then a short walk outdoors to the maple trees.

Dress warmly and wear good walking shoes — the trail can be muddy or slippery. This program is partially outdoors. The total length of the hike to maple trees about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the woods and back.

Note: due to health restrictions, you will only taste store bought pure syrup.

WHERE: Palmer Park Community House at 990 Merrill Plaisance, Detroit 48203. Park in the Splash Park parking lot, off of Merrill Plaisance near the intersection of Pontchartrain and Merrill Plaisance, north of McNichols and south of Seven Mile Roads. Look for the Community House, the building covered in brightly colored circles at the end of the parking lot. Look for the signs to meet next to the building. This is partially an outdoor activity, so please dress appropriately, and bring umbrellas and raincoats, hats and gloves if needed.

RESERVATIONS: You must register in advance by reserving tickets for each member of your family on this Eventbrite page—click on the red bar near the top that reads: "Select a Time." Reservations are required and very limited. WALK-INS may be turned away if no space is available. The program is most appropriate for children 5 years old and older. Adults, teens and younger children are welcome; the program will be adjusted to the ages of children attending.

WAITLIST: When we are filled up, add your name to the waitlist and if there are additional openings we will contact you. Please add each person's name to the waitlist for every person in your family/group.
