Mapantsula is widely considered as the ultimate anti-apartheid film, that captured the country's mood in the 1980's. Written by Oliver Schmitz and Thomas Mogotlane, Mapantsula debuted originally at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988, critical acclaim. The film was screened once in South Africa before it was banned.
Mapantsula tells the story of Panic, a petty gangster who inevitably becomes caught up in the growing anti-apartheid struggle and has to choose between individual gain and a united stand against the system.
