Map the System 2023 - University of Oxford Students - Info Session & Mixer

About the Event

Join us for an-person information session & mixer on Monday 5th December 2022 from 5:30pm - 7:00pm to learn more about the competition, ask questions, and connect with others that are interested in applying (you might even find your teammate!).

Please arrive around 5.20-25pm at the main Reception at Said Business School and we will greet you (directions here).

Who is this session for?

This session is for University of Oxford students who are interested in taking part in Map the System. For more information, please email [email protected] or visit our website. Event Hosts

We are delighted to have Dr Anant Jani hosting this session, and welcome him as our Map the System University of Oxford Educator this year, read Anant's profile below. Anant will also be joined by the Map the System Programme team, Alice Louka and Calum Pinches.

- Dr Anant Jani, Research Fellow at Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development and Oxford Martin Fellow. Anant Jani's research is focused on understanding how we can improve population health through social prescriptions and by addressing social determinants of health. Given the negative impact of severe heat on morbidity and mortality, he sees access to cooling (both passive and active) as a social determinant of health and cooling as a potential healthcare intervention. In this capacity he works with the Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Cooling. Prior to his position at the University of Oxford, Anant worked in Europe and the Middle East to help healthcare systems within these countries to focus more on value-based healthcare. Anant has a PhD in immunology from Yale University. Anant was a Map the System Oxford Judge in 2022, and we are delighted to welcome him into the Map the System University of Oxford Educator role this year.

What is Map the System?

Map the System is a global competition of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship in partnership with educational institutions across the world. Participants use ‘systems thinking’ as a guiding approach to understanding complex social and environmental challenges and create systems maps as a means to articulate their findings in a way that people can meaningfully understand, share, and learn from – key skillsets for those interested in creating systemic and sustainable social or environmental change.

Who is eligible to apply?

Apply as an individual or in a team of up to 6 members. At least one participant must be a current University of Oxford student. Recent alumni, non-students, or students from another institution may join an eligible University of Oxford team. The University of Oxford team won 3rd place among 38 finalist teams in the Map the System 2021 Global Finals and was awarded £1,000 for their project; Colo(u)r: Youth and Fine Art in Ghana.

Dietary Requirements & Consent of Photography

We are planning some light catering for the event, please let us know on the registration form if you have any dietary requirements. We also plan to take some informal photography at the event which may appear on social media. We will ask you to complete a consent form prior to the event. If you do not consent to photography, please make a note on the registration form.
