If you've been on a basic navigation course and just want to practise your skills and refresh your knowledge, this is for you!
About this Event
Event Photos

Whether you've attended one of our Intro to Navigation courses or another beginner nav course in the past, you may be feeling a little rusty! A few hours in the hills with a qualified instructor and some peer support is just what you need to refresh your memory and practise those skills. As the saying goes, 'If you don't use it, you'll lose it!'

A good level of fitness is required for this walk of up to 6 miles with some hill climbing.

Skills revised:

  • Map symbols
  • Taking a grid reference
  • Orientating the map
  • Measuring and estimating distance and timings
  • Planning and following a basic route
  • Basic use of a compass

What to bring:

  • Hiking boots
  • Plenty of snacks and a packed lunch
  • Rucksack
  • Water (at least 1 litre)
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather and spare layers
  • An up-to-date OL1 map and a working compass (Silva Expedition 4 compass ideally)

Getting there:

Our meeting point is Redmires Plantation Car Park, Sheffield S10 4QZ. Grid Ref: SK 256 856 (Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/SnT7X3rXUYMYqxym9 ), which is free to park. Lift sharing available from Glossop.

Meet: 9.45am

Set off: 10am

Safety:

I like to make my hikes and courses as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so I keep a slow and steady pace. It's about enjoying the process at a pace that is comfortable for all and taking in our surroundings, not racing to the finish. It is important that you are responsible for your own health and safety when you're taking part in any outdoor activity. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on these hikes or courses, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns. You will be asked to complete a Medical & Disclaimer Form before taking part.

I am a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency.

Dogs:

No dogs allowed this time.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so. I'm afraid that you won't be able to swap to another date.

Terms:

Over 18s only. Upon booking the event, you will be asked to complete a Medical and Disclaimer Consent Form, which must be completed at least 3 days before the event or you will not be able to participate. By booking this event, you give Peak Outdoor Coaching and Emily Taylor the right to use any photographs taken on the day for future promotional and marketing purposes. If you do not wish this to happen please advise in writing or by confirmed email.
