It is very helpful for the walk leader to have prior knowledge of numbers that will be on this walk. We ask you to complete this very brief form to help with our planning of the walk to ensure that we can safely accommodate all who wish to join us. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement when you submit this form, and also a reminder of the details 2 days before the walk.
Walk leader: Brenda Cameron
Meeting arrangements:
Meet at junction of Bournville Lane and Bristol Road South, Selly Oak. We start the walk at 10.45am. Toilet and drinks/snack break (bring your own) at Ley Hill Community Centre in later part of the walk.
By bus: Frequent buses 61 and 63 along Bristol Road to and from city centre – please alight at stop close to junction with Bournville Lane. Please note: If you travel on city-bound bus please cross the footbridge to Bournville Lane side.
By car: Roadside parking along Bournville Lane or side roads off. Where the walk finishes is only a few minutes’ bus ride back to the start.
Walk Description:
This is a linear walk of 4 miles (start and finish on same bus route).
Meadows, woodlands, a lake and a village green all feature in this walk. We begin with a walk down Cob Lane towards the Serbian Orthodox church. Here we pause briefly to take in the beautiful architecture of the building. After crossing Bristol Road we enter extensive Manor Farm Park with its open fields, woodlands and large lake. Some nice views too. After walking one end of the park to the other we follow Merritt’s Brook Greenway to our second park, Ley Hill, another extensive park of open fields and woods. An easy ascent takes us to the Ley Hill community hall with its adjacent Ley Hill Village Green. The village green was created as part of a regeneration project. It is a very charming little area, a small park in its own right, and with distant views. We will have a break here with the hall convenient for a toilet stop, so if you wish please bring along snacks/drink. The last part of the walk is a slow descent down the hill across open fields then a short quiet lane to Bristol Road. The walk finishes here where there are frequent buses to take you on your way for the rest of your day. For anyone who drove to the start, as said above it’s only a few minutes on the bus back to the start of the walk.
Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Tuesday 21 July. After this, please email [email protected] to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
===================================================================
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to [email protected] - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
