Mangrove Cleanup

Mangrove Cleanup is an effort to reduce the debris found in the beautiful and vital ecosystem at the Matheson Hammock Park bike/walk path. The path is framed by a forest of dense mangroves that unfortunately accumulate debris that floats in from the ocean.

If you agree that nature is not the place for garbage then please come out and help us protect the marine life that relies on this vital ecosystem. Some of the marine life include crabs, fish, birds, crocodiles and more. Not only do mangroves provide a habitat for wildlife but mangroves protect our shoreline from flooding and storm surge. Some common trash items found are bottles, cans, plastic bags, food wrappers and more. Please help us in an honest effort to help protect our wildlife and home.

Trash bags and gloves will be provided for all volunteers. Kindly asking all volunteers to bring in reusable water bottles to limit waste. And last but not least, bring your grabbing tools if you have them, these will help to reach debris in hard to reach areas in the mangroves.

Don't forget to wear your bug repellent and sunscreen! Please also wear closed toe shoes (some you don't mind getting muddy).

Please remember to wear masks due to Covid-19 and maintain social distancing.
