A multidisciplinary approach to treating the most common athletic spine injuries across the continuum of care.
About this Event

Overview

Joint arthroplasty is an effective procedure for managing pain and restoring function in joints affected by end-stage osteoarthritis. As the prevalence of osteoarthritis continues to rise, the demand for total joint arthroplasty is also expected to grow, making arthroplasty one of the most common surgical procedures. Rehabilitation is critical to optimize postoperative outcomes and enhance function across the continuum of care from preoperative management to return to sport. It is essential for rehabilitation specialists to distinguish between routine and atypical healing, recognize signs of postoperative complications, and effectively manage these complications using an interdisciplinary approach to ensure successful outcomes after joint arthroplasty.

Agenda Highlights

  • Surgeon Roundtable: Quickfire Q and A
  • Perioperative Considerations from the Rehab Perspective
  • Acute Care Complex Cases
  • Rehabilitation Pearls and Pitfalls for Joint Arthroplasty

Target Audience | This activity is targeted to physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, athletic trainers, physiatrists, residents, fellows, and student trainees.

Learning Objectives | Hospital for Special Surgery Continuing Education activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the collaborative decision-making process, both preoperative and perioperative, for successful postoperative surgical outcomes.
  • Identify common arthroplasty complications and red flags across the rehabilitation continuum.
  • Implement treatment pearls in unique ways to address patients, both simple and complex.
  • Develop strategies to problem-solve setbacks and atypical recoveries.
