Mammoth Hike Challenge Kickoff HikeWest Bend Segment

We are partnering with the West Bend Library on a hike on the West Bend Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. This event serves as a kickoff for the 2024 Mammoth Hike Challenge, which challenges participants to hike 44 miles on the Ice Age Trail in the month of October. Hikers will get to meet the Ice Age Trail mascot Monty the Mammoth and enjoy some Culver's custard.

RIBBON CUTTING EVENT: At the same time as the hike, there will be a ribbon-cutting event at the Marth-Strickland trailhead with officials from the City of West Bend and the Ice Age Trail Alliance. The event will officially open the bridge and boardwalk installed this summer. Hikers can optionally attend the ribbon cutting. Individuals who do not want to hike but would like to attend the ribbon-cutting event can park near RE/MAX on the south side of Highway 33 (parking here is limited).
LOCATION: Meet at the lower parking lot (near Wells Lake) in Ridge Run Park, off S. University Drive, West Bend. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
HIKE DESCRIPTION: The kid-friendly hike will start from the trailhead sign on the north side of the lower parking lot. It will head north from the parking lot on the Ice Age Trail, until reaching the new boardwalk and bridge over Silver Creek. After meeting Monty and getting our custard coupons, we will cross Highway 33 to Culver’s. Then after enjoying some custard, we will return the same way for a total distance of about 1.6 miles.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water and insect repellant.
