About this Event
The Earth’s surface and the human body both contain approximately 70% water, so what better time to connect with Mami Wata and the tides?
Mami Wata is a water diety who often takes the form of a mermaid. She is venerated in West African Vodun, Haitian Vodou, Folk Catholicism, Odinani, Yoruba religion, Voodoo, and Hoodoo.
Calling in Mami Wata and guidance from the tides can help us deeply understand movement, transformation, and flow in ourselves and the world.
This one-hour class will include introductions, a short demonstration of tides, and room for group discussion around our own relationship to the ebbs and flow of energetic forces in our lives. We will explore:
- The Afrodiasporic water deity known as Mami Wata
- The tidal relationship between the moon, the Earth, gravity, the oceans
- Cultivating awareness and appreciation for lunar tides
In addition, we will talk about the alluring pull of Mami Wata, the water deity who is perhaps calling you in to learn more. The class will end with a short, community oracle reading from Miah's own Mami Wata Oracle Cards.
This workshop is donation-based and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. The suggested donation is $22. Mami Wata Oracle Cards will also be available for purchase!
