Backstage hums with the jittery electricity of a preview performance—costumes half‑buttoned, props scattered like confetti, actors murmuring lines to the walls. In the middle of it all stands Reggie, veteran of many a Twelfth Night and perpetual sufferer of Malvolio’s misfortunes. He’s endured the snickers, the taunts, the yellow‑stocking humiliation more times than he can count, and tonight he’s decided he’s had enough.

If Maria is the architect of Malvolio’s torment onstage, then her actress—sharp‑witted, unflappable, and always ready with a backstage quip—has become Reggie’s target for a little “artistic reciprocity.” Nothing cruel, nothing harmful. Just a perfectly timed, perfectly executed prank to even the cosmic scales of Shakespearean justice. Any coincidences between the actors who play these roles in our current production and the characters who play those roles in this fictional production are meaningless.
