MALMO MUSIC FOR KIDS - 4/5 YEAR OLD CHILD

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

In this class your child will joyfully discover the elements of music through traditional chants, singing games, folk songs and classical music. Buzzy the Bee makes an appearance to teach rhythm, and Bertha Bear shows us some singing tricks. Together, we explore various instruments to learn the concept of melody. Overall, we have lots of fun!

An early foundation in music not only nurtures musical ability, but also helps children's brains develop to their fullest potential. As well, valuable emotional and social skills are developed in this group class. Isn't it wonderful that something as fun as learning music is also good for you?

OVERVIEW OF SKILLS AND CONCEPTS

We dance, we sing, we explore movement and imagination to teach classical musical concepts. Books, puppets and all kinds of materials make this a great class with lots of action.

Rhythm – the concept of beat and rhythm, echo clapping, the introduction of “ta,” “ti-ti”

Melody – descending minor third interval so-mi

Form – rhythm patterns, alphabetical designation

Harmony – step the beat and clap the rhythm

Expression – fermata, crescendo & decrescendo

Rebecca Schellenberg, M.Music Performance, teaches Music in Early Childhood at Grant MacEwan College. She also teaches private violin lessons at the college and in her Malmo studio. Rebecca has taught students as young as 3 yrs old, and as old as 82! She has performed with many symphonies: Edmonton, Saskatoon, Prince George, Regina, Okanagan.

Rebecca has lived in Malmo for 25 years. She teaches creative writing as well, and has taught for Edmonton Public Library, City of Edmonton, and at various seniors residences in the city.
