Show Description
Join us in celebrating the release of singer-songwriter Malia Rogers’ single “Sunlight (A Good Death)” - a folk song about the deep interconnectedness of grief & love. Ticket proceeds will go to a local organization supporting bereaved families and individuals. The night will feature 1 short set from Malia and special guests (TBA) followed by an acoustic open stage for sharing songs & poetry about grief, love, or both. Covers & originals welcome. Optionally, bring a favourite photo to add to a ‘wall of love’ for the night, celebrating the people who shape us.Bios
Nova Scotia raised, Ottawa-based singer-songwriter Malia Rogers has a clear musical mission: be the first in the room to drop her shield, and in doing so, move others to lower their own. With sonic references ranging from Feist and Aoife O'Donovan to Dan Mangan and Noah Kahan, Malia's conversational folk offerings carefully balance melancholy and hope – transforming rooms of strangers into rooms of kin with precise lyricism, warmed-honey vocals, fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo. Malia's debut EP Chameleon draws on folk, bluegrass, and celtic influences to explore enduring themes of identity, relationships, grief, growth, and the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of our lives. The six-song collection is "a sonic snapshot of becoming — a musical tide chart that captures the motion of identity, grief, and love in all their patient, persistent forms”. Her next single, “Sunlight (A Good Death)" on March 6 2026, honours her grandfather and celebrates the interconnectedness of grief and love. With compassion and gentle wit, Malia invites you into the corners of her heart the way she would invite you into her family home on the East Coast: put down the heavy bags, stay as long as you need, and take something with you when you go.Accolades
Malia sold out Red Bird for her album release show last May and is opening for Jim Bryson twice this month for sold-out shows. She opened for Rory Taillon and Jessica Pearson & The East Wind (the latter of which I'm also a touring bandmate for). She just finished a mini house concert tour further North in ON, and is touring more fulsomely in Northwest ON for Jessica Pearson & The East Wind later in March. Also sold out Tapestry in TO this past Dec with her friend Lucy Ellis, and has toured as a side musician for Daniel James McFadyen and Ian Sherwood.Social Media
