80 FILMS Presents -- On the night of a rare lunar event, a mysterious demon awakens to wreak havoc on a small Northern California town. Inspired by the dark history of Mendocino County as well as imagery from the classic surrealist text Maldoror, this DIY horror series -- presented in 10 unique chapters -- follows the titular character Maldoror through a series of frightening and violent encounters, culminating in an epic finale of apocalyptic revenge. Shot in an experimental style all its own by Madison filmmaker Austin Duerst, MALDOROR is equal parts folk horror, ode to nature and cultural critique, shedding light on the darkness of the past as well as Mankind's capacity for evil.
