Malaya is coming at you again with their second in-person film screening of another martial law film about the freedom of press in the PI!
About this Event

"Portraits of Mosquito Press" sheds light on an important part of Philippine history, when one man and his loyal editors risked their lives to publish what was really going on in the Philippines. Jose "Joe" Burgos Jr., with his wife Edita, ventured to publish an alternative newspaper in light of many dangers and perils.

Directed by Joe's son, JL Burgos, we see the element of family, of sacrifice, of unnecessary victimization. Come watch this interesting film and learn what the freedom of press (or lack thereof) was like in the Philippines during Martial Law!

The film is 54 min long and we will have a discussion and Q & A after the film. Please also join us beforehand for a bake sale fundraiser which will raise money for typhoon relief efforts following the tropical Storm Paeng in the Bicol area in the Philippines. Please come hungry for snacks and treats! **Doors open at 6:30pm at The Beacon Cinema**
