About this Event
Smithsonite is the second most abundant supergene mineral at Tsumeb, surpassed only by Cerussite. It is found in all three oxidation zones and occurs in an extraordinary variety of habits and colors. Unsurprisingly, Smithsonite specimens are highly prized by collectors.
Mal Southwood’s presentation will explore the history of Smithsonite discoveries at Tsumeb, its distribution and associations, and will provide an in-depth look at the chemistry behind its remarkable color variations, making it one of the most admired and sought-after minerals.
