About this Event
About the event:
Join us for an engaging, interactive event celebrating the interconnectedness of creativity.
The event will begin with a behind-the-scenes tour of the newly renovated Crafts Council Collection store, led by the Collections team. Objects in our unique ‘handling collection’ will be available to explore, offering a unique perspective on materiality and technique.
A special exhibition, Unboxing the Collection: Exploring the Vessel will allow guests to explore materials, styles, and techniques that transcend geographical and temporal boundaries, sparking meaningful conversation about craft practises and culture.
Following the tour, guests will take part in a workshop, led by ceramic artist Rosa Nguyen. Taking inspiration from the evening’s discussion and the craft works on display, participants will make small organic vessel forms. These will be combined with dried painted plants, which Rosa uses in her practice, in an Ikebana inspired arrangement (Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement).
Rosa Nguyen creates sculptural objects and site-specific art works, working in the fields of ceramics

About the programme:
Unboxing the Collection is an exhibition and events programming developed by guest curator Lewis Gilbert and Crafts Council.
Unboxing the Collection will create an interactive space for discussion and exploration of the Crafts Council Collection.
This summer, young Craft Citizen placement Dafydd Powell Halls led an audit of Crafts Council Collection works, some of which have not been seen in more than a decade. Using these works as a jumping off point, the Unboxing the Collection programme will host a small series of open discussions and workshops centred around the collection, holding space for conversations which look into the collection’s past, interrogate the purpose and pitfalls of public collections and think about building the future.
This exhibition and programming is supported by Cockayne Grants for the Arts, a donor advised fund held at the London Community Foundation.
