About this Event
Making T-Shirt Yarn Three Ways
Because the beloved t-shirt has uses beyond its time in our wardrobe, Amanda Robinette will teach three different ways to create yarn from upcycled T-shirts in this 90 minute workshop. How can a crafter choose which method? It depends on the craft (crochet? weaving? basket-making?), the intended use of the finished object, the tools at hand to make the yarn, and the crafter’s creative choices. Have fun and learn all of the tips and tricks to easily upcycle this wardrobe staple.
Amanda Robinette has woven for decades, both professionally and for joy; she also teaches tai chi for weavers. She is particularly fascinated by a Japanese form of rag weaving called Sakiori, which creates beautiful fabric out of rags, and calls her version of this historical craft “Western Sakiori.”
Come join us for a fun and creative event where you'll learn how to turn old t-shirts into yarn using three different techniques! Whether you're a seasoned crafter or a beginner looking to try something new, this workshop is perfect for you. Get ready to transform your old tees into something useful and stylish. This in-person event will be held at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center. It's part of the Southern California Handweavers Guild's Weaving and Fiber Festival, so you can shop and sample the demonstration looms after your workshop. Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn a new skill and have a great time doing it!
