About this Event
We welcome Stefanie Flippin and Carolyn Su, with special guest, Mirna Valerio, for an exclusive Live Edition of their run podcast, Making Strides.
About the Making Strides Podcast Hosts: Both Stefanie and Carolyn are women who stumbled into the sport of running in their 20s, and both women have since established themselves as forces of change within the community.
Stef is a professional trail and ultrarunner, coach, and writer based out of Colorado, where she also runs her private practice as a foot & ankle surgeon. Carolyn is a writer and marathoner based out of Boston, and she is most known for her advocacy work through the Instagram platform, @DiverseWeRun.
‘Making Strides’ is a space to share their experiences as BIPOC, female runners, as well as a space to discuss the nuances that come with their perspectives: safety, sponsorships and contract negotiations, mental health, current events in the running world and beyond, etc.
About special guest, Mirna Valerio: A former teacher and cross-country running coach, Mirna Valerio has changed the status quo of what a runner looks like. When she toes the line at ultramarathons now (she’s done 14 of them to date), nobody gives her a sideways glance. Other runners know that the Mirnavator, as she goes by on social media, is one of them. Valerio has a high-energy personality and relentless perseverance when it comes to her running and her outreach. As a celebrated author, speaker, and anti-racism activist and consultant, she’s made it her life’s work to promote inclusivity, accessibility, and diversity in the outdoors. Her reach is strong: The New York Times once named her one of “Five People Who Can Help You Love Your Body” and The Wall Street Journal has called her a “voice for a whole class of athlete.”
Venue Location: We are located on the second floor of the lululemon Newbury Street store. In-person attendees may enter through the door at 206 Newbury Street and take the elevator to the second floor. Metered parking is located on Newbury and Boylston St.
NOTE: There will be seating at a first come, first serve basis at this event. Depending on attendance, we may be required to move to standing room only. If you require accommodations, we are happy to support your request and reserve you a chair in advance.
Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions or seating accommodation requests.
