About this Event
Join us for an interactive workshop on air quality, sensing practices and society!

The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Waag Futurelab are organizing an interactive, hands-on workshop that will bring together citizens, artists, scientists and policymakers with the goal of collaboratively increasing sensor literacy.

Sensor-generated data - such as information about air quality - has immediate impact on our oeveryday lives. Understanding how this data is being used to shape policies and how we, as a society, can take ownership of it can create a stronger connection to the environment and place us in a better position in the conversation with governments and businesses. Sensor literacy is a matter of urgent societal relevance.

This 2-day living lab will serve as an interactive platform for exchange, experimentation, dialog and learning. We will combine scholarly reflection with hands-on experimentation and embodied sense-making practices.

Day 2: Academic symposium

Day 2 will have an academic character and provide a space to collectively discuss the experiences of the hands-on workshop on Day 1. The participating international researchers will present their on-going projects on sensor technology, and embed the workshop in larger debates about sensor cultures and justice.

We'll be talking about how sensors impact the environment and society, and how we can use them to build a more equitable future. We'll also be exploring how to use sensors in ways that are sustainable, and how to develop new tools to make them more accessible. This is a chance for us to come together and discuss what we've learned and how we can use it to shape the future

Participation on Day 2 is open to anyone interested.
