About this Event
What is our job as educators in a world being disrupted by generative artificial intelligence (AI)? How do we embrace the potential of this powerful tool while staying aware of, and hopefully avoiding, its pitfalls? This introductory workshop offers educators relevant and practical entry points to begin the process of making sense of AI.
The day is divided into two parts:
In the morning, we’ll focus on building our own AI literacy. We’ll learn about the latest developments in generative AI technology, define ethical and responsible use, discuss specific applications and innovations happening in education, and engage in guided, hands-on practice with AI tools, trying different prompts and use cases. We’ll consider how both educators and students are and will use generative AI as part of the life of school.
In the afternoon, we’ll design responses to generative AI. After looking at both AI-resistant and AI-assisted assessment strategies, participants will identify an assessment or activity from their class that needs to be redesigned. They will have a chance to plan, share, and reflect on their work with colleagues.
Participants will:
- Explore the current state of AI in education
- Understand core principles of using generative artificial intelligence effectively
- Practice a variety of prompts and use cases that are relevant to the day-to-day work and goals of educators
- Identify the ways in which their assessments do (and do not) need to be redesigned in response to generative AI
