Making Music at the North Carolina Museum of Art

Join us in person for a fun and interactive workshop at the North Carolina Museum of Art! Whether you’re an art lover, music lover, or just curious and creative, this event lets you get hands-on in the galleries of the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Participants will explore the world of sound and rhythm up close and inspired by the museum's incredible collection. Meet fellow enthusiasts, try out instruments, and collaborate in small groups to create short musical compositions that interpret and describe the art you're seeing. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to make music and memories!

Your hosts are Greg Whitt and Annelies Gentile, professional teaching artists collaborating on a new body of work: EKPHRASTIC MUSIC. It's an ancient Greek approach for interpreting visual art through other art forms. Traditionally it's literary, but we're taking it in new directions to broaden the practice and foster the connection between art and music.

You don't need to be a musician or an artist to join in, just willing to stretch your creative boundaries a bit. Only twenty tickets are available due to limted space in the galleries.

NOTE: This workshop will be photographed and filmed. We'll be presenting these ideas at an arts-based symposium in New Mexico at the end of February. Your participation is an implied photo release, and your enthusiam will support this exciting new experimental approach to arts integration.

Ticket holders meet at the entrance to NCMA's West Building (the new, modern one). Please arrive at least ten minutes before 2pm.
