Presenters: Marion Stanton is Head of Education at CandLE who provide support for students in mainstream and special schools as well as those who are education through EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than at School.
Stefania Rota is AAC Senior Teacher Manager at CandLE and has spent several years working with students with complex access needs to help them to access maths GCSE and other maths qualifications.
Common problems with maths learning including:
· Working memory issues with stepped questions.
· Mental arithmetic when manipulative learning has been reduced or impossible.
· Rote memory tasks such as times tables.
Reasonable adjustments and how curriculum differentiation, adaptation, augmentation and ecology of education can help.
Different approaches to teaching maths including mastery and spiral maths.
Examples of differentiated and adapted maths tasks and resources.
