Making Marmalade

If you know Arlington Garden, you know marmalade is our jam! Inside our abounding 3-acres is a host of California native plants, Mediterranean climate-appropriate plants... and you guessed it! A Citrus Grove! As a non-profit organization, most of our funding comes from private donors, however, the garden is also funded through the selling of marmalade that is processed from our very own Washington Navel orange trees.

Another thing about us is, we are a free, volunteer-maintained public garden. We heavily rely on volunteership, volunteers help us harvest the oranges, and in this instance, one of them is going to be demonstrating how to make delicious orange marmalade!

This workshop will demo the marmalade making process and attendees will be given the opportunity to sample Fuyuko's and Arlington Garden's marmalade :)

Fuyuko Kondo is a professional pastry chef (and dedicated AG volunteer)! She graduated from Pasadena City College, then left to Europe to have her training in French and Belgian pastry. Then, she graduated from C.E.R.I.A (Food Industry School), worked at WITTAMER in Brussels, and at LENOTRE in Paris. She returned to Tokyo and and became owner and chef of LA CHOUETTE pastry school and online bakery shop. In 2014, she moved back to teh US for a new chapter in life. Fuyuko continued her career as a pastry chef in NYC. At the beginning of the pandemic, she moved to Los Angeles to join her family and open a cottage food business in her hometown, Pasadena.

Arlington Garden is a climate-appropriate, habitat garden offering learning, inspiration, and enjoyment for all. We are a free, volunteer-maintained garden that is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

We endeavor to engage, educate and demonstrate how a climate-appropriate habitat garden can be both beautiful and practical to maintain while incorporating the goals of water conservation, habitat creation, and environmental sustainability.
