Part 2 of 'Who Makes History?' - a public event series brought to you by Oxford University's new Community History Hub.
About this Event

All are welcome to participate in a public event series being launched by the Oxford History Faculty’s new Community History Hub.

We will be discussing new directions in the field of History, being pioneered by community historians and academics working in partnership. The three events will take place across Oxford, as well as later being available to view online. They are free to attend, you simply need to book your place in advance via Eventbrite.

Our second event, Making History Here: Community History in Oxfordshire, begins with an optional walking tour highlighting the ‘Forgotten Stories of Oxford', led by community historian and creative artist, Rawz; followed by a panel discussion exploring the experiences of historians working in and on Oxford and Oxfordshire.

We invite anyone interested in historical studies to join us for a rich, engaging discussion. We also welcome you to get involved with our Hub’s growing network of History researchers and students by subscribing to our mailing list.

LOCATION: The walking tour starts at the History Faculty (41-47 George St, Oxford, OX1 2BE): circulating round key sites in the city centre, before returning to the building. Refreshments and snacks will be then be served in the Faculty Common Room, and the panel discussion will take place in the Lecture Theatre.

DATE & TIME: Thursday 25 April 2024, 4-7pm (participants can opt to join for both the tour and discussion; or the discussion only. Please specify your interest via the booking form.)

Walking tour: 4-5pm

Refreshments & snacks: 5-5.30pm

Panel discussion and Q&A: 5.30-7pm

THE PANEL: Rawz (Urban Music Foundation), Professor Glen O’Hara (Oxford Brookes University), Marta Lomza (Museum of Oxford)

Getting to the venue:

Parking is very limited at the Faculty of History and in Oxford's city centre, so we strongly encourage you to use public transport to travel to this event. The Faculty is within easy walking distance of Oxford's train and bus stations; as well as several bus stops for the Park & Ride services located at the nearby High St, or on St Aldates.

If you have any questions about the event, booking or access requirements, please email the Community History team at [email protected], and we will be happy to assist you.
