March Maker's Space with Savannah Jenkins
SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This workshop invites participants into a generative space of embodied exploration and collective creation. Each session begins with a guided warm-up rooted in an
improvisational playground, allowing dancers to attune their bodies, heighten awareness, and notice habitual movement patterns (where we tend to linger, get stuck, or propel forward.) This opening practice sets the foundation for curiosity, risk-taking, and choice-making within movement. The core of the workshop focuses on transforming the mundane and repetitive aspects of everyday life into rich choreographic material. Participants will identify ordinary actions, gestures, and observations and use them as visual scores to generate movement phrases
and compositional ideas. Through structured exploration and experimentation, these everyday references become entry points for imagination and abstraction. As the series progresses, dancers will collaborate in small groups, beginning in the second week, to shape and develop shared works. Together, participants will play with dissolving, expanding, reshaping, and melding individual choreographic ideas into collective forms. The workshop ultimately aims to reframe everyday as a magical realm of movement, discovery, and creative possibility. More info
ARTIST BIO:
Savannah Jenkins is a dance artist based in Greensboro, NC. She began dancing at the age of 15, quickly discovering movement as a site of inquiry, expression, and connection. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, with a concentration in performance and choreography, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, along with minors in Anthropology and Arts Administration, fields that continue to shape the way she observes, questions, and creates. Her training spans multiple genres, and she has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Elizabeth Sullivan, Clarice Young, Caitlyn Schrader, kt Williams, Jiwon Ha, Robin Gee, Juel D.
Lane, Leah Cox, Kyle Marshall, and Valeria González, among others. These experiences have informed her development as a thoughtful, adaptive performer and imaginator, attuned to both rigor and intuition. Savannah continues to perform and collaborate on projects across the East Coast, drawn to spaces where movement and meaning intersect. Her practice is grounded in curiosity, community, and a belief in dance as a catalyst for reflection, connection, and collective insight.
