Makers at the Hall: Evan Smith

Evan Smith has spent his 20+ yr career working in both food and music, and is starting to connect some dots. Born in Texas to a mother who regularly performed on stage as a vocalist and in the kitchen as a cook, he was exposed to an improvisatory, celebratory attitude about entertaining early on. In the culinary world, he’s worked in an array of diverse settings including Christie’s auction house in New York, The Well at Jordan’s Farm in Maine, and an old oil tycoon’s ranch in the Texas hill country. As a musician (saxophonist/keyboardist), Evan has toured the world with the bands Bleachers and St. Vincent since 2009, and has recorded on celebrated albums by artists including Taylor Swift, Lorde, Diana Ross and Paul McCartney. In 2017, Evan starting bringing homemade food creations to his bandmates as gifts before tour. Shortly thereafter, he officially launched his hot sauce brand Evan’s Rockin’ Hot Sauce, with his very first sales at Bleachers’ band merch table. Since then, the ERHS community has grown into a thriving online business with a national reach, and with stockists carrying Evan’s Rockin’ on their retail shelves here in Maine. Evan currently lives in Portland with his wife Megan and 3 year old daughter Harriet.
