Dream of impressing your dinner guests with handmade tableware?
Join local Walyalup (Fremantle) ceramicist Sally Smith from Deep Earth Ceramics to curate, shape and make your own bowls, platters, mini vases and serving ware, creating a number of works over this four week series.
You'll learn all about the fun and meditative craft of slab building to create your wares with dark stoneware clay, you'll also experiment with carving techniques like scraffito to add some texture into your works. Sally will guide you through any tweaks so you can customise your designs and then you'll finish and glaze them yourself.
You'll be able to make at least one serving platter, one serving bowl, spoons and two mini vases in this hands on workshop.
Works will be dishwasher safe but we recommend a hand wash for longevity.
All tools, materials and light morning tea will be provided. There are no previous skills required, simply bring your authentic self.
Participants are welcome to bring along their own aprons or borrow one of ours.

Important details
Your pieces will be glazed and fired at Sally's studio. Cost included in your ticket. A huge amount of care is exercised when finishing off your precious hand-made items. Please note that clay is unpredictable and on rare occasions, items break in the kiln. This is all a natural part of the fun of perfecting your craft.
Works will be available within ~5-6 weeks of the last class date from the Stackwood store. You will be contacted when they are ready to pick up.
You must be able to attend all dates in this series as no make up classes with be available, unless under exceptional circumstances.
About Sally
Sally Smith discovered clay when she was just 5 years old. Since that day she has travelled many creative paths and all have brought her back to her first love; clay as a vehicle for expression. From her Stackwood studio, Sally creates unique pieces with emotional authenticity, preferring essential beauty over conventional perfection. Most importantly her work is made with love and designed for use each and every day.
