Make Your Own Sketchbook with Brent Nakamoto

3-Hour Workshop

Time: 10am-1pm

Description: This basic binding is the building block of larger, multiple signature bindings. The pamphlet stitch can be made smaller (three-hole) or larger (seven-hole+) for projects of different scale, and can accommodate different different kinds and quantities of paper, for a range of different projects.

In this 3-hour workshop, we will learn the basics of working with paper, how to sew using the pamphlet stitch, and how to attach a paper cover. Students will make 1-2 books and will have the opportunity to experiment with different applications of the skills learned.

Tuition: $55 + $15 materials fee

Materials: All materials will be provided.

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.

Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.

About the Artist

Brent Nakamoto is a Queer, Japanese-American, and Buddhist artist with a background in painting and drawing, printmaking, photography, and book arts. He received his BA in Art from UC Santa Barbara in 2012 and MFA in Visual Arts from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis in 2018. He currently lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA. He is the Program and Marketing Coordinator for Brew House Arts, a non-proft arts organization where he manages the Distillery Emerging Artist Residency.
