Make the Government obey the law - Songs, Stories, Poetry
Come join us on Sat Jun 29 2024 at 19:30 for an evening filled with powerful performances and delectable dishes at The Friends Meeting House. Let's raise our voices through songs, share impactful stories, and express our thoughts through poetry. Together, let's make a difference and remind the government to obey the law.
Tell me more about the cause!
Tired of the government acting above the law? Support Andrew Boswell's campaign to hold government to account in the Courts.
Parliament makes laws to tackle climate change and protect nature but government, both local and national, are trying to break these laws. Nationally, the Government has been found twice to have an unlawful Climate Change plan. Locally, Norfolk County Council wants to trample over the protections for rare barbastelle bats.
Local campaigner Andrew Boswell has taken to the Courts to try to stop high carbon infrastructure being approved contrary to national climate budgets. Recently the UK Supreme Court dismissed his case on the A47 road schemes in Norfolk - sadly these will now be built, but the campaign to stop the full dualling between Peterborough and Great Yarmouth continues and has been energised by the legal cases.
Andrew also has two new cases: one is on whether the A12 road expansion in Essex will breach UK commitments under the Paris Agreement, and the other is whether a gas fired power station (“Net Zero Teesside”) with a large carbon footprint, despite using carbon capture, undermines delivering Net Zero (read Guardian article: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/may/14/uk-net-zero-teesside-project-produce-carbon-pollution).
Which is more important? Meeting the UK obligations under the Paris Agreement or building new roads? This is the central question to the A12 case, and to read more and make a donation if you can please check out this site: https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/together-lets-break-cycle-of-climate-disaster-rds/
See the video below for a short recent conference presentation on UK roads cases.
The proceeds from this event will go towards funding the legals costs of this work.
