About this Event

During this Flag Workshop we will make pieces of mixed media artwork exploring techniques of collage and stitch. The individual creations will be assembled together, photographed and scanned to make a digital textile print. The print will be made into a flag to be hopefully hoisted up the flagpole outside Platt Hall in Spring 2023

This workshop is for adults of all abilities. It is an opportunity to have a go at a creative skill that you may not have done before.

All materials are provided.

Jackie Haynes is an artist living locally to Platt Hall. She works in a variety of mediums and has worked collectively on a number of flag and banner making projects with different people. https://jackiehaynesartwork.wordpress.com/

Make Space at Platt Hall is a series of creative skills share workshops for adults led by makers from Rusholme, Fallowfield, Longsight and Moss Side.

They come from the idea of everyday creativity - that there are skills and talents in the local area that can be taught and learnt from each other.

Much of the collection at Platt Hall are everyday creative things that were collected and given to the Hall in the 1920s by Mary Greg:

"I am glad indeed to hear so many people have seen the collection. How glad I should be if we could know if any of them ever make a single thing as a result that will be a delight to themselves, their children or those who come after. We must leave the answer to the future!"

Letter from Mary Greg to Assistant Curator William Batho, 23 September 1928
