Make it Miniature! Tunnel Books with Janine Malaca
About this Event
Do you like miniatures, books, and storytelling? Join artist/instructor Janine Malaca for this in-person workshop where you will create pieces that bring joy!
In this workshop, you will acquire the skills and knowledge needed to work in small format — and have fun in the process. You will learn how to create stories in layers using elements cut from Chiyogami paper, and how to work within the limits of a 2 x 2.5" frame. The technical aspects of the construction have their nuances and require patience and attention to detail. While Janine guides you through each task, she share the varied and numerous techniques, tips, and tricks she uses for cutting, glueing, and folding.
You will complete two miniature tunnel books. The first one will be approached step-by-step as you become familiar with the basics of putting everything together. For the second book, put your creativity to work! Don't worry, there's no need to plan ahead, or to think too hard about it. Let the papers available spark your imagination. What story would you like to tell, and more importantly, what makes you happy?
As Janine says, "I hope the workshop brings joy by being creative in small doses."
All materials and tools will be provided.
Participants are asked to, please, bring:
- a notebook and pen
- an apron or studio attire
- reading glasses, if you need them
- your lunch
If time allows, Janine will also demonstrate the creation of a small box to store your tunnel book.
The ticket price includes a workshop fee of $110.00, plus Eventbrite fees and HST for a total cost of: $118.48
