This class takes your spindle turning skills to a new level. Using a hardwood like maple you will first design your mallet taking into consideration the size of the head and handle and how to join the two for a functional carver’s mallet. The class will not only focus on proper spindle turning skills but also the use of calipers to transfer the dimensions from your design drawing to your actual piece. Embellishment and finishing techniques will also be discussed. Intermediate woodturners are welcome in this class. . Previous turning experience is required; we recommend taking our “Bowl Turning with Carbide Tools” Class prior to enrolling in this one. This is a comprehensive 5.5 hour class with a 30 minute lunch break. All class participants receive a 15% discount on merchandise purchased in the store on the same day of their class. Exclusions Apply. Students should come properly attired for a woodworking class (tight fitting clothing, long hair restrained and constrained from the face); and bring or wear provided industry standard hearing protection and safety glasses during equipment operation. All woodworking classes are held in a store that sells a wide variety of woods, including exotic woods such as cedar, aromatic cedar and other products (e.g., finishes, cleaners, etc.) that may cause allergic or other reactions in a small number of cases.
