Make-and-Take Rain Barrel Workshop

Join Clemson Extension Water Resources Agents on Thursday, May 21 to assemble and paint your own rain barrel to use at home! This two-hour workshop will include a short presentation on rainwater harvesting and hands-on experience in assembling and painting your own rain barrel.

Time: Check-in begins at 5:40pm, the workshop will take place from 6:00pm-8:00pm.

Location: 2685 S. Irby St. Suite K, Florence, SC 29505

Description: In this workshop, participants will learn how capturing rainwater can conserve water, reduce runoff, and support healthier plants — then build their very own rain barrel to take home.

With step-by-step guidance, participants will construct a fully sealed rain barrel using repurposed 60-gallon pickle barrels and a variety of hand and power tools. After construction, stick around to personalize and decorate your barrel to make it uniquely yours. (If your barrel needs extra drying time, we’re happy to store it temporarily at the Clemson Extension office.)

Target audience: local homeowners, Master Gardeners, garden club members, homesteaders, educators

• presentation + make-and-take home a rain barrel is $55

NOTE: The presentation portion of the workshop is free to attend, but registration is required through Eventbrite.

What to bring: Bring your own reusable water bottle, as much of the workshop will take place outdoors. We have a water station indoors. We'll be working with power tools and paint, so please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. If you have eye safety glasses/goggles, please bring those as well.
