Make Adorable Embellished Stacking Rings

Design, fabricate, and embellish your own one-of-a-kind stacking rings in this hands-on metalsmithing workshop. This immersive class is perfect for jewelry lovers who want to experience both traditional silversmithing and the creative versatility of fine silver precious metal clay.

In the first phase, you’ll learn essential metalsmithing techniques as you create a set of sterling silver stacking rings from wire. You will size, form, solder, texture, and polish their rings, gaining a solid foundation in classic jewelry-making skills.

In the second phase, you’ll shift into a more sculptural process, designing tiny charms and decorative elements using fine silver precious metal clay. Flowers, hearts, symbols, or even animals can be made to personalize each ring. Once complete, the clay pieces will be torch fired, transforming them into solid fine silver.

To finish, your fired silver embellishments are carefully soldered onto your sterling rings, uniting both techniques into a cohesive, wearable set. You’ll leave with beautifully embellished stacking rings that reflect your personal style—and a deeper understanding of how traditional metalsmithing and precious metal clay work together in contemporary jewelry design.

This fun, special project class is the perfect opportunity to get your hands dirty with precious metal clay and metalsmithinhg. You will learn how to mold miniatures, how to how to cut and solder silver wire, and how to attach embellishments. You will leave the class with a pair of beautifully finished rings that are your own works of art!

Fingernail Moon Jewelry Studio is in FAVO - Faith Arts Village Orlando - a vintage 1950s era motel that has been converted into artist studios. Just off Colonial Drive/Highway 50 near I-4, we are conveniently located at the north end of downtown Orlando. Using the addres 718 Highland Ave. you will arrive at the outer parking lot. To enter the facility, turn north on Highland from Colonial, there is a stoplight, and enter the second driveway on the left, through a black fence. You will see a sign that says "Park Lake Presbyterian Church, FAVO Art Studios". Proceed through the parking lot to the far right and rear and on through the driveway connecting to a second parking lot. You will see an L-shaped building with colorful doors - that's us! I am studio 237, second from the end upstairs on the right. Look for the moons!

Info: During the morning session, we will mold tiny shapes in silver clay using silicone molds. After these have dried, we will refine them. Students will be given the option to fire the piece themselves or have the instructor fire them.

Info: While the metal clay miniatures are being burnished in the tumbler, we will make our rings. Students will be given a choice of sterling silver wire and will learn to measure and cut the wire to size, then how to prepare the wire to be soldered. Students will be given the option to solder the rings themselves or have them soldered by the instructor.

Info: Time to take a break and enjoy one of our many local eating establishments. There are restaurants for every taste and budget within easy drive, and a couple in walking distance. You are welcome to bring your own lunch and eat in the studio if you prefer. *Note: there is no food or beverage available at FAVO.

Info: Feeling refreshed after a delish lunch break, we will complete any touch up work on the rings and embellishments. The instructor will solder the embellishments onto the ring shanks. Once the embellishments have been soldered to the shanks, we will finish, polish and patina (if desired) the rings. And you will have two new beautiful rings!
