Learn how to recycle, re-use and bind natural materials from the cemetery, such as soil, felled branches from the trees, wood and/or waste.
About this Event

The West Norwood Cemetery has a policy of keeping all natural materials on site. The architecture practice A Small Studio is holding a 'making workshop' to create surfaces using materials from the cemetery, such as soil, felled branches from the trees, wood and/or waste from the site. The surfaces will be used as a building material throughout the year in a process of co-design to explore craft techniques and develop community-led architectural surface materials .

This is part of an ongoing outreach programme as the cemetery undertakes refurbishment works that are funded by London Borough of Lambeth with National Lottery funding, awarded jointly by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund, and Friends of West Norwood Cemetery, and with the support of Norwood Forum and the wider community.

Come and join us to learn how you can recycle, re-use and bind natural materials with other model-making equipment. You will be part of a long-term project that West Norwood Cemetery is undertaking that celebrates its green assets in collaboration with the local community.

After the workshop session, you will be able to take a short guided walk through the cemetery.

We need to ensure there are enough materials available for participants. So, we will be managing numbers with the Eventbrite link. We will have a few ‘drop-in’ spaces available but these will be taken on a first-come first serve basis and are not guaranteed, so please book a space if you can to avoid disappointment.
