“Major Taylor 111 at the Port” is a cycling event created through the partnership of the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Little Rock (MTCCLR) and the local 501c3 non-profit Recycle Bikes for Kids (RB4K).
MT111 is one of the most sought after cycling events in the country. Supported by the Little Rock Port Authority, local cyclists and bike enthusiasts from around the country will want to attend for the unique aspects of this ride with a Major Taylor flavor.
On Saturday morning, June 13th, starting at the headquarters of the Little Rock Port Authority, riders will exit the port, ride to Pine Bluff, cross the Arkansas River and visit Wrightsville, England, Keo and Scott before returning to the Port. There will also be a one mile sprint honoring the race that made Marshall “Major” Taylor a world champion.
This ride will benefit underserved communities. The Major Taylor Cycling Club members will visit schools, educate students about bicycles, distribute free bicycles from RB4K and hand out books about U.S. pro rider Marshall “Major” Taylor. This not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but provides a means to exercise for the youth in the state of Arkansas.
In addition, this ride will allow MTCCLR to purchase and install bicycle repair stations at communities that are sometimes overlooked, which helps the cycling community as a whole.
