Majestic Beast is a chamber music ensemble with a noble mission and an unusually strong relationship with cargo space. Comprised of professional and amateur bassists from across the Black Hills, the group brings together musicians who teach privately, perform with the Black Hills Symphony, and put their grounding, supportive instincts to use in jobs well beyond the concert hall. Serious about music and only mostly serious about themselves, Majestic Beast exists to demonstrate—calmly and authoritatively—just how much the double bass is capable of.
This program features carefully selected “classics” spanning the 1800s through the 2000s, proving that the bass has been relevant for quite some time and intends to remain so. For this performance, Majestic Beast will be joined by student bassists from around the Black Hills, expanding the herd and investing directly in the next generation of low-frequency leadership.
All proceeds from the concert will support the Dahl and music education in the Black Hills area, because fostering a lifelong love of music (and the bass) is a cause worthy of both grandeur and gravity. Majestic Beast invites you to listen closely, feel deeply, and reconsider everything you thought you knew about the instrument that holds it all together.
