Main St. Story Slam at Kickback Cafe

Main Street Story Club is a monthly Story Slam competition at Kickback Café in Oregon, WI hosted by local storyteller & stand-up comic Tyson Purcell.

The Main Street Story Slam is an open mic competition event based on different theme each month that celebrates the art of storytelling . This month's theme is: SURPRISE! Everyone is welcome to sign up to tell a true story from their life—from funny to heartfelt, this is a place for all stories.

As a special treat, each month will highlight a guest storyteller to share a featured longform story. This month's featured storyteller is the host and show runner Tyson Purcell.

If you're curious about signing up to tell a story, here's some things you should know: Be creative in your adaptation of the theme—but make sure the theme features prominently in your story. Craft your story to be told in five minutes or less and be energized to step into the spotlight, take the microphone and tell your story. This is a true story from your life, so please leave your notes, cheat sheets, props, or costumes at home. Be sure you're preparing an actual story with a clear start, middle and end—this isn't the place for a TED talk or Stand-Up Comedy bit. Your content can fall in the range where parents may want to be cautioned, as it's ok if your story contains some material that parents might find unsuitable for children under 14. There is a panel of judges evaluating stories based on content, presentation and your adaption of the theme.
