We're coming back to the New Shamanic Oasis!
Some of the oldest Magickal tools are the drum and rattle. Here's a new opportunity to not only make one of your own, infused with your energy and spirit, but to learn more about how to use them!
Saturday 9:30 AM Drum Playshop Prices:
(Note: all prices include a $20 fee to be passed on to Mara for her generous time, energy, end use of her wonderful, magickal space. If you PRE-REGISTER with her, let me know and we'll adjust your price.)

Note that not all hides come in all sizes. Why? Simply, over the years, I've learned which ones work best at what range and this represents the best set of choices.
Saturday 2:00 Rattle Playshop Prices:
3" Deer - $50
5" Horse - $80
5" Elk - $80
5" Buffalo - $90
I'll supply pre-made, ready to fill rattle kits, stuff to fill them with, and a host of crafting stuff for adornment. You bring imagination, anything you might like to add on, and something you can get dirty - dress for mess!
Saturday Night Drum Circle -
Bring your favorite drum!
$20 per person.
(Free if concurrently enrolled in any of the other Playshops!)
This “Facilitated” style drum circle is designed to help the beginners, encourage those that have never touched a drum, and bring the wisdom of more experienced players into a playful atmosphere of fun and experimentation. Perfect for newbies and “people without rhythm”, we'll explore rhythmic possibilities with a specific direction, as opposed to the more chaotic “public” circles. By the end, we'll be jamming and you'll have learned to find your voice. Some drums and noisy toys will be provided for those that don't have one, yet.
Sunday 10:00AM Magickal Drumming Playshops - $200 for the whole day.
All paid registrations are due by 9/9/24. No Exceptions.

Drum FAQ:
"Are these Native American drums?"
Native Americans still make similar drums, but so do a lot of other cultures around the world. These are, essentially, the same kind of drums any of our ancestors might have made thousands of years ago when they were still working with stone tools - only better, thanks to a few design choices that help longevity. They're truly Pan-cultural and practically part of our DNA - no matter what your background.
"What are my hide selections?"
Buffalo, Elk, Horse, or Deer. These are all hunted animals - no farm slaughters (except horse, which are natural deaths)- and are all blessed and all the parts used long before I ever see the hides.
"What are the differences?"
Tough question to answer, as every drum is utterly different than every other one (the beauty of this particular medium), but IN GENERAL:
Buffalo - deeper pitch, less resonant, more grounding, heavier.
Elk - Medium to higher pitch, most versatile, longer resonance, energy varies. Elk is my "go to" hide for almost everything.
Deer - light weight, higher pitched, simple, clean resonance, very "air"/"Higher chakra" kind of feeling.
Horse – this can be all over the place sonically, from the light feel of the deer to the heavier resonance of a large elk. No promises, here. The real appeal of the horse hide is that they’re all natural deaths. No hunting, no farming. I find there’s a serious appeal there for a lot of people.
Again, remember, these are generalizations (really, I can't stress this enough) and what your drum becomes is also DIRECTLY related to your personal energy resonance.
"What size can I make?"
14", 16", 18" and 20" Yes, generally, bigger is deeper and louder. If you want to wake the dead, do a 20" Buffalo. For ceremonial/divining work, a 16" Elk or deer might be a better choice. You get the idea.
"What if I want to make something bigger?"
Great! At that point, they get pretty time consuming and aren't group class friendly. Talk to me about what you'd like to do and we'll arrange to have you come up to my Home workshop in Nor Cal for a 1-on-1 session. This works REALLY well for mother drums if you're so inclined.
"What do I have to bring?"
A sunny disposition, a sense of adventure, and two hands (or a friend with two hands). I supply all the hide, hoops, tools, and materials for drum sticks. Of course, drum sticks!!
"Will we be decorating our drums?"
Nope, not this time, but I'll happily answer all your questions as to how to personalize your new baby. Save that artistic enthusiasm for making rattles!
"How long does it take?"
About 3 hours, depending on the group. About 3-7 days before the drum is ready to play.
“Do we get to take them home?”
Of course! What would be the fun, otherwise?
"What about the rattles?"
The rattles are a LOT more free-form and are a great exercise for your artistic abilities. Please feel free to bring any beads, baubles, feathers, fur, leather, or anything else that feels good for adornment. I'll bring a bunch of goodies and paints, as well.
"Soooo... tell me more about the 'Magickal Drumming Playshops'!
Well...
Magickal drumming Playshop series:
This is not a series for drummers only!! If you are a practitioner, priest/ess, solitary, or whatever, and you’d like to incorporate drumming into your core practice, this seminar, based on my 20 years of in the trenches experience, is for you. I’ll be bringing a brace of drums and possibly a few other goodies, so drums aren’t required, but it's a good thing if you have one to bring. Parts 1 & 2 will start at 10AM and run about three hours-ish, then a lunch break, and hopefully we can start 3 & 4 around 2 and head home by late afternoon. How long things run depends upon all of you, but this seems to be about the average.
Bring chairs and/or blankets for your bums, as well as your favorite drums and/or other noisy toys.
