In Reels and Riddles: Music of the British Isles, Magdalena Ensemble explores the musical heritage of England, Scotland, and Ireland, bringing together the sounds of historical instruments and the vitality of folk performance. From spirited dance tunes to evocative ballads, the program reveals a tradition full of beauty, imagination, and surprises.
These melodies are more than echoes of the past. Carried across the Atlantic by generations of immigrants, the musical traditions of the British Isles helped shape the folk music of America, from Appalachian fiddle tunes to the ballads that became part of our own storytelling heritage.
Magdalena is a self-directed collective of early, new, and folk music specialists based on the US East Coast. Through immersive storytelling and adventurous musical collaborations, the ensemble brings historical music to life for audiences of all ages.
Featured are: Mira Fu-En Huang (voice and percussion), Cole Manel (plectrum instruments), Cameron Welke (plucked strings and percussion), and Niccolo Seligmann (bowed strings).
Tickets $15.00 in advance, $18.00 at the door. Concert begins at 7:30, doors open at 7:00. There's plenty of parking and the venue is accessible to all. Light refreshments (coffee, tea and pastries) will be available.
