Pandit Nayan Ghosh
Born in 1956, Pandit Nayan Ghosh is an artist with a unique musical dimension. He is acclaimed worldwide for being the only maestro with a superlative command on two diverse instruments – the tabla and the sitar.
Artistic brilliance, rich repertoire and a magnificence of tone are the hallmarks of his performances. Having received intensive and extensive training in tabla, sitar and vocal from his illustrious father, the renowned tabla maestro and guru, Padmabhushan Pt. Nikhil Ghosh, Nayan Ghosh is respected among musicians and loved by discerning listeners alike for his innate artistry and emotive musical depth in his performances. He also received invaluable guidance from his father’s guru, the ‘Mt. Everest of Tabla’ Ustad Ahmed Jan Thirakwa. Nayan’s elder uncle was the legendary and pioneer flautist Pandit Pannalal Ghosh, the ‘Father of North Indian classical flute’. Since the 1990’s he has also received additional guidance in sitar from the eminent sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta.
Recognised in India as an eminent tabla soloist, known for his authentic and traditional Tabla Baaj, Nayan Ghosh has offered eloquent accompaniments to stalwarts like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, Ustad Munnawar Ali Khan, Ustad Rais Khan and a galaxy of eminent instrumentalists and vocalists. He has recorded with well-known labels like RAGA Records and India Archive Music of New York, BOL Records of San Francisco, ARION of France and other recording companies in India and abroad.
Nayan Ghosh is also the recipient of the Achievement Award 1998, at the hands of the Lt. Governor of California, Gray Davis for his contribution in promoting Indian music in the West.

All of 19, Ishaan Ghosh stands out as one of the front-ranking tabla players in the younger generation of the Indian classical music scene. An exceptionally gifted child prodigy, Ishaan gave his first tabla solo recital when he was barely three years old. Subsequently, his inherent talent, perseverance and sincere dedication have carried him to unprecedented heights of success and fame as one of the most promising tabla players of his generation. Materialising the imagination and vision of his father Pandit Nayan Ghosh, Ishaan is committed to uphold the gravity of the art form professed by his family. He is the grandson of the renowned 20th-century tabla maestro and guru- Padmabhushan Pandit Nikhil Ghosh and the grand-nephew of the pioneer flautist, Pannalal Ghosh.
His captivating Tabla solos are an eclectic amalgamation of figured articulations and complex rhythmic tapestries groomed with appealing delineations drawn from the vast repertoire which he has inherited under maestro Nayan Ghosh’s blessed tutelage. He has carved a niche for himself in both solo tabla playing and accompaniment. His power-packed solo performances and sensitive accompaniment have won him critical acclaim from both musicians and connoisseurs. He has performed with landmark figures in the Indian classical music field including his father Pandit Nayan Ghosh, Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, Ustad Aashish Khan, Ustad Nishat Khan, Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, violin legend Dr. N Rajam, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Rakesh Chaurasia and Purbayan Chatterjee, among several other prominent artists.
Despite being firmly grounded in the classical tradition, Ishaan continues to explore new vistas of Tabla playing through his novel interpretations and creative collaborations with musicians of various other genres like Jazz Guitarist Max Clouth of Germany, Mohammad Rasouli and percussionists Fakhroddin Ghaffari and Hamid Reza Rahbaralam of Iran, Hoo Eouling of China and Raho Langsepp of Estonia. He has also been invited by global platforms like TEDX to participate in their events as a speaker and he continues to actively perform, lecture and tour to increase consciousness and a following for Indian classical music amongst the youth worldwide.
Since the age of 8, Ishaan has been regularly travelling and performing across USA, UK, Europe among several other countries. In 2016, he was specially invited to perform for the Habitat for Humanity project in Atlanta, USA and felicitated by the former president of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter.
