Our Make your own clothes course-is designed to introduce you to the great joy of designing your own, made-to-measure clothes !


We’ve created an 8 Module ( A to h ) self-paced course designed to give you all the necessary skills to create clothes. From sewing to cutting and transforming patterns , you will experiment all the necessary techniques to build a personal wardrobe. The Class is suitable for complete beginners or for the more seasoned makers that want to deepen their knowledge of garment making . You will leave each Class Module with a solid foundation to make your own clothes at home afterward . 


Our modules are offered once a week over 1 sessions ( 7.5 hour ) in a workshop format

, in 2 different locations , Vancouver or Port-Coquitlam and you can enroll at any time. The Workshop fee includes access to one Sewing Club session , happening every Mondays In Port Coquitlam Studio (6pm-8pm) where you can finish a project, gather with sewists and enjoy some social time.


Each module are in-depth workshop session delivered in person by accredited instructors to will deliver training suitable for professional of personal goals. Our small class setup ( maximum 7 students ) will allow you to get plenty of personalized instructions.

Workshops commence in May and will happen weekly afterward. Each workshop comes with a free two hours extra session at our weekly Sewing Club in case you don’t finish your project during the class time.


Module A will review all the basic knowledge you will need to sew clothes starting using the easiest yet beautiful fabric: Cotton, Linen or Hemp woven fabrics.

We’ve curated a series of beautiful sewing projects that will give you the opportunity to learn different skills based on your level. 

You have complete beginner knowledge : choose between the linen top by Elizabeth Suzan ,a drawstring short with pockets from MAE studio...

You have some confident beginners knowledge ( you’ve taken an introduction to sewing class before ) or intermediate skills: choose between a summer shirt , a blouse ( see our workshop inspiration board for more options : https://www.pinterest.ca/MAESTUDIOVANCOUVER/workshop-make-your-own-clothes/ ) Contact us if you'd like to sew your own project during the class.



Here are the topics we will cover during the class : Thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin/ Cut your fabric properly / Handling of the sewing machine: feed fabric through, sew in a straight line and turn corners / explore the range of features and stitches on the machine / sew different types of seams / Understand the sequence of construction of a project / Tips and tricks for sewing corners, round shapes and pockets / Hem and basic finishings.


Specific project topics : Sew darts ( Spring shirt , Blouse and Tank top ) / Make a tab closure and sew Buttonhole with your machine sew sleeves ( Tops and Shirt ) / gathering and finishing collar and neck with facing ( Tank top ) / Sew a waistband and side pockets ( Shorts ) / Sew set-in sleeves ( Men's top )/Sew an invisible zipper (blouse)


Sewing Machine provided.


The fabric and trims ( thread and buttons) for your project are in addition. We have some fabrics available in our circular textile store and will also recommend local stores at registration.

Please note that this workshop is for those aged 16 and over.
